[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad]  I think I’ve found an Oud fragrance that I actually like! For some reason, oud has always been a personal no-no – maybe because I find it too overwhelming in its too-muchness because this dark and fragrant wood note is not about being subtle. If you want quiet, calm and understated, don’t choose oud!

Miller Harris Oud Eclat Review

I think the bottle is an exact description of the fragrance inside – luminous, opulent and dark – oud is known in the Middle East as black gold because it’s a very expensive ingredient. What could be a rather stifling note is lifted by a  sugar accord that brightens it immediately along with the smoother tones of cashmere wood to give it a mellow accent. Think unctuous, melting treacle rather than jolly cup cake that stays the course in the wear. I smelled the marigold note immediately without knowing it was marigold – a flowery presence that I couldn’t quite put my finger on initially but made for a good, if voluputous, first impression.

Miller Harris Oud Eclat Review

I think what you’ll find is that it feels like a winter night fragrance – it’s all of the enveloping, rich and decadent notes sitting alongside balsam and moss but it’s not a hunkering down scent. I thought of velvet and clinking glasses – a party and candlelight … not festive exactly but warm and shimmering. So, I suppose what I’m saying is that Oud Eclat is atmospheric and magnetic – don’t be surprised if others linger longer around you than you might expect because I think you will become immediately more-ish. It’s designed to spark emotion and mystery and it certainly does exactly that. I found that towards the end of the day it took on a lighter, slightly fresher almost cologne-ish nature just before you feel you’ve had too much of a good thing – what a clever blend. It’s £160 HERE – I’ve linked to Escentual where postage is free. A little will go a very long way with Oud Eclat but the way is delicious!
